I started meal planning to avoid the proverbial question,
“ What's for dinner?". I would sit down & plan for the week the things hubby
liked to eat so when he asked I could give a different answer than
saying "I don't know what do you feel like?" I would just take
the things he liked to eat match them to a day and try to make sure
we didn't have a Mon meal or Tues meal & eat the same thing every
week. Last year my outside freezer went out & our food budget
changed DRASTICALLY, so I have to plan menus based on what's on sale
at the store & I don't plan more than 2 weeks at a time. Since we
cut back on eating out, I try to add what the kids like to eat at
restaurants, incorporate those in the planning and make those things
at home. Since I started couponing we have a lot of veggies in the inside freezer, so I plan the main dish. I leave room for long days, eating out & cooking something I have a taste for. The kids can request things & we add them to the plan.
